A260 Instructional funds are intended to help departments deal with student enrollment growth, especially with courses that serve students from across the University – such as general education core classes. A260 funds can only be used to hire part-time instructors (or to provide fulltime faculty compensation for teaching an overload class).
If you believe that there are needs for class adjustments above and beyond what your department’s funds will cover, please complete the form to request funds and follow the guidelines below. After completing the form, please forward to Sharon McGuire at mail stop 1001.

Please follow these guidelines when utilizing A260 funds:
- Your A260 funds (both base and temporary) can be used to fund part-time instruction (and occasional overload instruction) on the Boise campus. Your department must continue to offer at least the same offerings in A260-funded courses as it has in past semesters.
- Any new A260 funds for which you apply must be used to hire adjunct faculty (or to provide overload compensation to fulltime faculty) to teach sections of high-demand undergraduate courses on the Boise campus. Examples are:
- General education core classes;
- Courses that serve the needs of several majors;
- Other undergraduate classes that are “bottlenecks” for students.
Instructional Funds Other Than A260
If you are trying to address class capacity issues in areas for which you cannot apply for A260 funds (such as at the graduate level, at an off-campus site, or through distance delivery options) contact:
- Your Dean, for courses that are important to your graduate program;
- Extended Studies, for off-campus classes, distance delivery classes, weekend classes, workshops, or self-support classes;
- The Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, for ways to increase capacity through means other than hiring adjuncts, such as employing teaching assistants, test scorers, etc.
If you have any questions regarding the A260 process, please contact Sharon McGuire, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, at 426-4062.
