What is Internationalization?
Internationalization of higher education describes the process of integrating an international and intercultural dimension into the teaching, research, and service functions of an institution. Ideally, it is an integrative process with multiple approaches.
Mission: The BSU Task Force on Internationalization will produce a set of recommendations that will lead the university to a greater awareness of the broad dimensions of internationalization on a metropolitan campus dedicated to distinction as both a research and learning organization. The Task Force recommendations will promote an environment that prepares the university community to become active participants in a rapidly changing global society.
Vision: Boise State University shall offer a globally enriching education and provide a diverse campus climate to prepare its students to become internationally competent and culturally sensitive citizens. Members of the Boise State University community will gain an understanding of international commerce, global interdependence, human rights and diverse cultural, social, political, and economic systems.
Charge: Develop a plan for the comprehensive internationalization of Boise State University. The plan should recognize the synergy across the breadth of academic programs, administrative departments, student services, research, and outreach activities.
Timeline: Complete report by June 2006.
Structure: The Task Force consists of two co-chairs and nine members who co-chair sub-committees that address specific topics and are open to university-wide and Boise community participation. The four sub-committees are:
- Curriculum, Academic Programs, and Research
- Student Affairs
- Marketing
- Community Partnerships
Outcome: Final report detailing initiatives, planning, implementation, resource needs, and sustainability.
