University Accreditation

Boise State University is a public institution of higher education established in accordance with Idaho Code Section 33-4001.  The general supervision, government and control of of the university is vested in the Idaho State Board of Education which acts as the board of trustees of the university (See Idaho Code Section 33-4002).

Boise State University is proud to be accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).  Regional accreditation of postsecondary institutions is a voluntary, non-governmental, self-regulatory process of quality assurance and institutional improvement, and serves to recognize higher education institutions for performance, integrity, and quality to merit the confidence of the educational community and the public. The NWCCU is an independent, non-profit membership organization and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the regional authority on educational quality and institutional effectiveness of higher education institutions in the seven-state Northwest region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.  NWCCU establishes accreditation criteria and evaluation procedures by which institutions are reviewed.  All colleges and universities accredited by NWCCU undergo comprehensive review of that accreditation every 7 years.  In 2010 NWCCU implemented new standards for accreditation.
