Academic Assistance
Academic Advising for faculty and staff: This section of the general Academic Advising site has links for various resources such as the University Advising Handbook which contains extensive information about advising strategies, philosophy, working with nontraditional adults, and more. An online reference guide to advising resources across the university, privacy guidelines, FERPA, and academic probation and dismissal are all topics addressed here, too.
BroncoWeb quick reference guide: This link provides instructions to get students familiarized with key functions of BroncoWeb.
Disability Resource Center: Within the Disability Resource Center, students and faculty can access information about BSU’s accommodations for people with special needs. Students can request an accommodation, find Assistive Technology on campus, read policies, and more. Faculty can access information about working with students with disabilities, training, rights and responsibilities, testing, and view a sample syllabus statement.
Graduate college: This site includes links to a list of available graduate programs, student-initiated and faculty-initiated forms, an online application, graduate student financial aid & scholarships, a guide to academic policies of the graduate college, and the Thesis Manual.
Multi-Media Lab for Students: The Interactive Learning Center in room 128 houses a multimedia lab where students can produce digital-media projects for academic assignments. The lab offers current technologies for Web and multimedia authoring, creating brochures and flyers, editing digital video and audio, and developing digital presentations, documentaries, and portfolios. This site includes procedure for instructors who wish to include a digital-media component in their class assignments.
Student Success: This link contains information about opportunities for students to make the transition to unversity-level coursework smoothly. Find additional links to UNIV 101 and six further courses in the UNIV series designed to help students meet university academic expectations. A useful set of Tips for College Success are available here for first time students.
Tutorial services: Regular tutoring is available, as well as an extensive list of private tutors for a variety of subjects. Contact Tutorial Services at tutoring@boisestate.edu or 426-4049.
Math Drop-in Center: Free math tutoring is available in the Math/Geosciences building, room 118, for most Core Math courses. Tutors are provided by the Math Drop-in Center and are current students working on a Bachelor or a Master degree.
Writing Center: The Writing Center provides assistance for writing efforts. The Writing Center’s site includes online scheduling for appointments, a powerpoint and syllabus blurb to help you introduce the center to your class, a variety of writing resources, and the Word Works essays about teaching writing.
Financial Assistance
Financial Aid: Undergraduate students can find information including a Financial Aid Programs Guide to the various types of student aid programs with explanations and links to more information, scholarship opportunities, a Financial Aid Calendar with deadlines, loan counseling, and more. The graduate student section includes comprehensive information on aid and scholarships available.
Short-term student loans: Students can apply for a short-term emergency loan in room 211 of the Administration Building.
Residency status: Students can find help determining their residency status for tuition purposes.
Personal Assistance
Support Our Students (SOS): Contact the SOS team directly at sos@boisestate.edu. The SOS network is designed to provide a centralized system to access resources for helping students in need. See the Reaching Out Handbook for information about how to most effectively assist students, warning signs and means of assistance. Career advising: Provides an overview and links to various resources and online tools to assist in career exploration, such as Discover, a career assessment tool, plus multiple career and occupation websites, worksheets and checklists. Career Center includes services for students, faculty, alumni, and employers.
Student Rights and Responsibilities: This page addresses academic honesty, shared values, classroom behaviors, and more. Help students navigate difficult times by pointing them to counseling services through SOS. You will also find here, the academic dishonesty report form (pdf), conduct report form (pdf), and student conduct appeal form (pdf).
Employing students: The Student Employment Handbook for Supervisors includes specific information on hiring and supervising all student employees, including graduate students.
FERPA privacy: FERPA provides guidelines to Federal laws for communicating student information with students, other staff, parents or outside people.
HIPAA privacy: HIPAA provides guidelines to Federal laws for the terms of disclosure of personal and medical details and your rights concerning the privacy of your health information.
Student orientation: Access information about new and transfer student orientation dates and programs for students, parents and families.
Counseling Services: Counseling is provided free or for a low cost to students (no one is turned away for inability to pay), as well as classes and group sessions, HIV counseling, and couples counseling (one must be a BSU student). Map to Counseling Services.
Housing: Search here for housing opportunities and guidelines for life in residence halls and BSU apartments.
International student information: Includes important information for international students related to visas, admissions, employment, intensive English program, and more.
Job search and posting: BroncoJobs is an extensive online database for students and alumni to search for jobs and internships. Employers may post and track jobs directly.
Legal services for students: ASBSU provides free legal services for students for a wide range of situations.
Residential colleges: Information about the five Boise State residential college living-learning communities.
Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP): Information about the insurance, eligibility, waivers, claims, and more.
Medical services: Information about the variety of medical services available for students that are paid via their tuition or accessible with health insurance. Services include HIV testing.
Social
Cultural Center: The Cultural Center supports a variety of cultural and ethnic organizations and puts on programs.
International programs for students: Information about the various international programs for students including study abroad and student exchange programs and partner universities. Find links about custom-designed programs for the community, and services and resources for faculty and staff going abroad.
Student organizations: Contact information for Boise State’s various student organizations.
Volunteer Services Board (VSB): The VSB connects volunteer students (and employees) with community needs in a variety of programs such as regular Service Saturdays, Spring Break Alternatives, and collection drives.
Women’s Center: The Center conducts various programs such as mentoring for nontraditional women students and assistance for sexual assault and relationship violence. There is an extensive list of resources within the Women’s Center site.
