Faculty Connections
For All Faculty at Boise State University
Faculty Connections is a program designed to bring faculty together from across disciplines for career development activities, mutual learning, and community building through facilitated conversation, mentoring, and the expertise of presenters. Programs are sponsored by the Office of the Provost and include
- Faculty Interest Groups
- Individual Mentoring
- Workshops
All activities are structured to add value without adding to individual workloads. There are no required “deliverables,” but those who sign up are asked to make a commitment to full participation. Read the descriptions below and sign up for the activities that are of interest to you.
Faculty Interest Groups
- Create a network of supportive colleagues who provide safe, non-departmental sources of advice and information in areas that are not discipline-specific.
- Small groups (15 or less), facilitated by an established faculty member, meet throughout the academic year.
- Individuals may join only one group.
- Online registration for the 2012-2013 academic year will be during August 2012.
Individual Mentoring
- Tenure-track faculty in their first three years at Boise State are matched with an individual mentor who is an experienced, tenured faculty member.
- Provides a safe place for discussion and mutual exchange of ideas and information, free of any conflicts that might arise when mentors are also part of an evaluation process.
- Partners meet at least four times a semester, but may decide to meet more often.
- Mentors and Mentees will be invited to a kick-off meeting (TBA) to get-acquainted and learn some strategies for building an effective mentoring relationship.
Workshops
Workshops are one-time meetings of less than two hours that focus on career development for tenure-track and tenured faculty. Topics might be relevant to individuals in a particular career stage or might be of general interest to all.
